Production Designer

“The digital production design was overseen and conducted by director Tom Teller. I was the production designer for our locations and multiple-stage builds, the first being a spaceship capsule. We carefully selected black, silver, grey, and rusty orange colors to accentuate the Martian setting, ensuring that the visual palette effectively conveyed the unique environment of the red planet. As the production designer, I meticulously supervised the design and construction of the builds and locations to align with the film's overall vision. Challenges arose when we lost one of our intended locations towards the end of production, prompting us to improvise for the pre-flight room. We adapted by constructing the entire set using PVC pipes and plastic drops, cleverly working together with our DP Nico Aguilar, who planned to utilize kino lighting to beautifully diffuse through the plastic and cast captivating shadows (we created by layering dressing behind the plastic) to enhance the overall aesthetic. Additionally, the innovative design of the lowering door was a testament to the creativity and collaboration of our team, with one of our Art Directors spearheading its development and designing how it functioned and looked.”
